Free Summer Subway Art

So...I know I just posted 4th of July subway art but I was thinking that after the 4th of July you might want another subway art to go along with the summer season. That's when I came across this adorable subway art from Michelle, of Craft Carnival, and had to share it with you too! It's so cute and will be perfect after the 4th of July holiday, to still display subway art that is not out of holiday and still in season.

Click here to download and print your subway art. Again, just frame it and this will make a few cents looks like a high quality craft. Thanks BunchofCraft!

4th of July Subway Art

Here is a cute and super cheap 4th of July craft/piece of decor! I love printable subway art and I was pleased to find this adorable printable for myself and all of you. Just right click on the image below and save as. Then select your preferred printing/editing program and send to your printer.

I suggest framing in a frame you already have to save $$ or you can buy one that you can use for all your other seasonal printable subway art. This decoration literally just cost a few pennies, cost of printing and a piece of cardstock/paper.  Hope you enjoy this! Thanks Wolfe Pack!

How to Make a Jewelry Board

A few months ago, I attended Craft Carnival's craft night. I made the cutest jewelry board, which I am entering in a drawing for currently. If you have it in your heart to vote for me, click here for all details! Anyway, this jewelry board is so cute and easy to make, I thought I'd share it with you!

You'll need:
  •  9x11 Wood Block, about 1 inch thick (you can find these at Roberts or your local craft store)
  • Craft paint (1 color) & sponge brush
  • Scrapbook paper
  • Glue stick, scissors, and drill
  • Smalls hooks
Directions:

1. First lay foil or newspapers underneath your wood block and then begin painting. Although it is not necessary to paint the top because the paper will cover it, the choice it yours. Allow the paint to dry before covering.

2. Meanwhile, cut the scrapbook paper of your choice to cover the front of the wood block. Once you are done cutting and the block is dried, glue it to the front of your wooden block.

3. Now, drill small holes in the desired region of the board. The location typically depends on the type of jewelry you wish to hang (necklaces, bracelets, or a combination of both).

4. After the holes have been drilled, screw your hooks in and you are done! You can either hang yours on the wall or support it with a easel like mine below!

See how easy crafting can be! If you already have the basic craft supplies on hand this craft is pretty inexpensive too!

Craft Carnival

In my spring craft post I showed how to make Spring blocks & showed the chick I made. I actually made these at a craft night, hosted by two sisters that love crafting. They hold monthly craft nights in Utah and have a blog, called Craft Carnival. They provide a lot of choices at very affordable prices. I went last month for the first time and really enjoyed myself! Crafting is so relaxing and a form of entertainment to me. Best of all, the money you spend on entertainment becomes a household decoration, yeah! Even better, they are now offering a 5 for 5 referral program. If you refer 5 friends you'll get $5 off your next craft. So in this case, if you register, be sure to enter me, Calissa, as your referral please!

This is a great chance to get your girlfriends together to do a craft night. Hint hint, my local friends ;)  If you live out of state or can't make it you can order a kit to be shipped or picked up, which is great for all my friends that live out of state. Here are the crafts they are offering this month (pictures taken from Craft Carnival blog). Prices range from $5-$20. I would love to see some of you there!

The craft night is set for April 30th, from 5-9 pm. There is a deadline to sign up and pay, so click here to sign up!They also have a Facebook page, which will link you to their blog. Check out the page and blog for more details and exciting news!

Spring Blocks & Chick

It's always fun to buy decorations, but what about making them on your own and then using them to decorate your house? This=fun!

You'll Need:
  • 6- 2x4 blocks (sanded)
  • Sponge paintbrushes
  • Spring colored paints (6 different shades)
  • Scrapbook paper (preferably 6 different pages)
  • Cut out letters that spell S-P-R-I-N-G
  • Craft glue stick or mod podge
  • scissors/paper cutter
  • Sand paper (optional effect)

 1. Sand down any rough edges on all of your 2x4 blocks. Blow off any dust and paint each block, with a different spring color. Allow the blocks to dry completely.

2. In the meantime, cut six different scrapbook pages, to cover the width and height of the front of the six blocks.

3. Once the blocks are dry, glue the paper on the face of the block

4. Now, glue each letter to a different block, spelling SPRING.

5. If you'd like, sand the edges of the block to give it an antique look. Otherwise you are all done!

I also made this adorable chick! I added my own flair by tying ribbon into a bow and gluing it on to make my chick a girl. My spring decorations are complete, look below!

Decor-Glass Vases

I've been trying to step up my decorating style lately and have noticed huge glass vases in my favorite stores. I went to Tai Pan Trading and purchased two large vases. I had a 20% off coupon so they weren't too expensive, at about $18-30. I would suggest purchasing 2-3 depending on the space in your home to decorate.

Okay, once you've got the vases you'll need a few accessories to decorate it with. I would suggest ribbon or tool to tie around the neck of the vase. The funnest part is filling your vase with items/decorations. Be creative! You can use just about anything around your house or at the store. For Valentines I purchased sequined hearts from Tai Pan and filled them in the vase. For Easter I filled mine with plastic Easter eggs and "grass". Here are examples of how I decorated mine for Valentines Day and Spring.

The great thing about vases are they are elegant and light. You can't go wrong with decorating vases because they are so versatile. You can fill them with real flowers, fake flowers, pebbles and a candle, Easter eggs, candy, and so many other things! Do you have any great ideas to share? Have you already decorated a vase and would like to share? Send it to me and I'll share your decoration on my blog to share with everyone!

Decor--Subway Art

This craft is easy and free! I first saw it on a friends blog, where she created hers from scratch off of her Mac. I'm not as talented so I looked online to share one with all of you. All you do is print it on card stock paper and find a picture frame to frame it in. Then you have a piece of decor for the cost of a piece of paper. Cheap and cute! I printed one off for Valentines Day and have a picture of it below. Here is a picture of the Spring Subway Art I printed and put in this beautiful frame.

Click here to download your beautiful Spring Subway Art. Remember to print as an 8x10 and then trim down the sides as needed. Thanks Simple Crafter for the inexpensive Spring decor!

After Christmas Specials

It has been a few weeks after Christmas but if you haven't already checked out your local craft stores or national craft chains you can still find some great deals. I was at Roberts Crafts (a local UT craft store) and they had their entire Christmas decor for 50-65% off. That is a steal! You can buy wreaths, ornaments, trees, etc. This is a great way to stock up for next year without having to spend nearly as much.

I went to both Roberts and Tai Pan about a week after Christmas and with only $30 I got all of these amazing decorations! I saved over $40 by shopping after Christmas for decor for 2011. I was literally thrilled because Tai Pan carries gorgeous decor but it can be pricey.

Were you able to snag some deals too? Tell me about it, I would love to hear!
